View to women ending poverty

Coolangatta Tweed View Club will again host a celebration of International Women’s Day, which this year carries the theme “Empowering Women to End Poverty by 2015″.

The function will be held on Monday, March 8, at the South Tweed Sports Club, from 9.30am (NSW).

The morning will be compered by well-known local identity Maggie- Anne Leybourne, who has been a dedicated supporter of View clubs for many years.

Karlene Polglase, wife of Tweed Shire Council Mayor Warren Polglase, and recipient of the NSW Premier’s Award for her contribution to the community, will give a short address, and three keynote speakers will follow. They are:

– Dr. Judith Goa – highly respected Gold Coast gynaecologist, also working as a volunteer overseas with the Mercy Ships organisation which provides life-changing surgery to the world’s forgotten poor;

– Flying Officer Eleanor Webb – from No. 36 Squadron at RAAF Base Amberley, responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the F111 strike jet and the C-17A Globemaster;

– Larissa Gray, year 12 student and school captain Banora Point High School, whose ambition is to be a neurosurgeon.

Light refreshments will be served and cost is $13
